Spares and Repairs

I admit it – I have got an addiction to little plastic containers! Particularly these Sistema ones in the featured image. They are great quality plastic and have an airtight seal-able lid. I love them and I have recently categorised my box of spare bits and bobs in these handy containers – and I have even labelled them with a labeling machine. I am such a nerd!

Anyway here is what I have got in each box at the moment and I intend to add bits to the list and my kit as I go.

Manuals

I keep a Folder with the clear plastic sleeves for adding all the manuals for all bits of equipment on board. I will also have a list of email addresses for the main suppliers of the major systems on board, so that if any spare parts need to be ordered then I will be able to email them to get parts sent ASAP. If we get a new yacht, then I will ask for detailed drawings of the plumbing and wiring systems on board as well. I have heard that Nigel Calders “Boat Owners Mechanical and Electrical Manual” is a great book to have. So I am going to track one of those down.

Inventory

I will also make up a folder of a detailed inventory of all items on board, categorised in to various headings including spare parts, safety equipment, entertainment, navigation, communication, galley etc. This could also come in handy for insurance purposes and keeping track of what is on board.

Maintenance Log

I have got a maintenance log book where I will record all the things done on the yacht and will also keep in there any receipts and supplier details so I can either re-order from them again or contact if there are any problems.
